John Ross

John initially trained as an actor before training as a professional dancer, first at The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, then on to finish his training at The London Contemporary Dance School, graduating in 2011 with a 1st Class Hons Degree.

Since then he has worked for numerous artists as a performer, some being; Tom Dale Company, Jasmin Vardimon, Gecko Theatre, DV8 Physical Theatre (Enter Achilles) & Punchdrunk’s production of ‘Sleep No More’.  

Since graduating John has accumulated various choreography awards such as The Matthew Bourne Choreographer Award 13, Moko & Sadlers Wells Children’s Choreography Award 15 and was named BBC’s 32 one’s to watch of 2015.

Combining a creative interest for theatre and dance, he works nationally and internationally as a movement director in theatre/film/Opera with main stage credits such as Hampstead Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, Theatre Clwyd, The Open-Air Theatre in Regents Park, Birmingham Rep and The Old Vic London. 

Choreographing large scale Opera productions at the National Opera Houses in Lithuania, Copenhagen, Glasgow and Madrid.

John is currently in conversation with film directors such as Dexter Fletcher (Rocket man, Bohemian Rhapsody) to take on large scale choreography for film. 

A freelance teacher in contact improvisation and release technique, he has taught at all UK leading conservatoires such as The Place, Laban and Northern School. Alongside training professionals, he has guided and made work on the National CAT programs, youth companies and teaches workshops within schools and community groups throughout The UK and in Europe.

John is currently located in Scotland working for Scottish Dance Theatre as their lead Dance Artist.

This will be John’s 3rd Production with TDC.
